NEW YORK, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- U.S. officials Monday unsealed the FBI's criminal complaint against British terror suspect Haroon Rashid Aswat, as he faces an extradition warrant in London.
In the June 20 affidavit, FBI agent Michael Butsch swore in the U.S. Southern District of New York that between October 1999 and April 2000, Aswat attempted to set up a training camp in Bly, Ore., to train people, solicit funds and to "fight jihad" in Afghanistan and elsewhere.
Aswat, 30, of Dewbury, West Yorkshire, was deported to Britain from Zambia Sunday and arrested by police when he arrived. He appeared before magistrates at London's high-security Belmarsh prison Monday to face a U.S. extradition request, and was remanded until Thursday.
British investigators also accuse the ethnic Indian of helping or recruiting the bombers who killed 52 people and themselves and injured about 700 others on the London Transit system July 7.
